As we know, battle royale shooters have exponentially grown in popularity over the last year. The genre got recent inspiration on The Hunger Games saga and was popularized by games such as Fortnite and Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds.

More than a trend, battle royales have become a fever. Whether on pc, consoles or mobile, the gaming community has devoted itself to this format.

Now that Apex Legends joined the race with such a strong debut, some conspire that it may even dethrone Fortnite.

Apex Legends: The Next Evolution of Battle Royale

Apex Legends‘ big novelty is the squad-based gameplay. You choose a legendary character, team up with two other players and match your skills and abilities in the 60-player online matches. The last team standing is the winning squad. Another distinguishing trait is the possibility of reviving a fallen teammate during the battle. The game brings us a bit of Titanfall, Respawn and EA’s famous first-person shooter.

The evolution in the game works with player levels. Thus, you can level these up with the XP you win in-game. For each level-up, players receive an Apex Pack. The Apex Pack is a loot box: it offers random rewards such as weapons, skins or crafting metal. It is possible to save these items in order to unlock specific items in the future.

What Features Will be Added?

EA underlines that Apex Legends is not and will not be a pay-to-win game. However, there are plans for the introduction of new monetization features in the game in the next months.

Firstly, EA plans to introduce an option for direct purchases. This will allow for players to buy new legends (characters), skins and other aesthetic items.

As the game intends to remain out of the pay-to-win type, none of the items made available will give players an advantage. Hence, the only purpose of these items is the customization of the characters.

Possible Mobile Version Incoming

It is also possible that a mobile version of the game is on the make. This information was disclosed by Andrew Wilson, the CEO of EA, at the Electronic Arts Q3 2019. Wilson said that the company is looking towards a mobile version for Android and iOS. The goal is to create a cross-platform play, in which gamers with different platforms can play together.

Play Apex Legends

As mentioned, Apex Legends is free to play! It is available for download at the official site. You can play it on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Origin on PC.

If you’re interested in watching streams of the game, be on the look for The Twitch Rivals Apex Challenge. On the 19th of February, 48 famous Twitch streamers will compete in-game.
